Hi, I’m Rebecca Fischer. I grew up bilingually, speaking German and English. Languages have always fascinated me, and I love how you can play with words – written and spoken as well as graphically.

Qualification:

I have a bachelor’s degree in Transcultural Communication and a master’s degree in translation (German, English, Spanish). In 2020 I finished my doctor’s thesis on terminology in higher education. To deepen my legal knowledge, I also visited selected courses at the faculty of law in Vienna.

Area of expertise and work experience so far:

  • Specialised translation
especially of (legal) texts in the field of (higher) education and quality assurance
  • Localisation of websites
  • Proofreading of German and English texts

I have also translated medical, cultural, and technical texts and looked into media translation and subtitling.

Further interests and life-long learning goals:

Over the past few years I have developed a special interest and acquired some know-how in the field of layout and design as well as editing and public relations. My main focus now is finding an environment where I can use my talents in a way that will meaningfully contribute to and promote change towards a sustainable, fair and peaceful future and a free and open society that serves and promotes common welfare rather than the wealth of a small number of individuals.

Some of my voluntary activities and hobbies:

  • Vice-Chair of the Parish Council (Pfarre Währing)
  • Member of climate action
  • Reader
  • Cantor and band member
  • year-round Brompton biker
